Bringing Pittsburgh’s documented local history, early struggles, and active folklore into focus. Authentic walks led by researchers, not actors.
We believe that the real history of Pittsburgh is far more compelling—and unsettling—than anything made up for a haunted house attraction. This website was created as a shared effort by local history enthusiasts, independent researchers, and neighborhood preservationists who wanted to share the darker, forgotten side of the Steel City.
While most daytime excursions highlight Pittsburgh’s grand skyscrapers and corporate triumphs, our focus is on what happened in the spaces in between. We look at the brick alleys, historic canal corridors, and heavy stone foundations that held the actual weight of the city’s early growth.
Our stories focus on the people who walked these streets before us—the early soldiers at Fort Pitt, Gilded Age labourers, harbor dockworkers, and the families who lived and died in the shadow of the steel mills. Our walks provide an respectful, educational tribute to local heritage.
Our tours are led by local writers, independent history scholars, and museum guides who are deeply passionate about Western Pennsylvania. They spend their free time exploring county courthouses, library archives, and land registries to uncover stories that rarely make the standard history books.
We believe that understanding a city’s ghost stories is another way of preserving its architectural and human heritage. By telling the stories of the places we pass, we help keep the memory of early Pittsburgh—and the people who built it—alive for future generations of travelers.
